It happened in the early morning of Saturday Sept. 2, 2000. Someone drove a truck into the fire hydrant at the corner of Nicholas and Magnolia and made a quick escape. People living around were awakened by this extremely loud water noise. I am not sure which city department came to the rescue but they shut down the control valve after a little bit of fumbling through the heavy downfall. You can actually partially see a guy in yellow jacket who was hooking away the pothole cap. The whole show lasted maybe 30 minutes.
